Dark-Stormy Sober Bar Club

Dark & Stormy

The Dark & Stormy is a drink that originated in the Bermuda Islands in the late 19th or early 20th century. Bermuda was an important point of maritime trade, and rum was a very common drink among sailors. And although the recipe belongs to a Rum brand called Gosling Brothers, the recipes are altered and passed through many hands until they become public domain. This recipe is particular since its name is acquired as a result of the different densities of alcohol and ginger beer (thanks to its sugar content), causing the ingredients to naturally separate, thus creating a two-color drink that was reminiscent of the stormy days on the island.

ingredients:

2 ounces. Alternative to ritual rum
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1/2 oz ginger syrup
Top with ginger beer (about 5 oz)
5 drops aromatic bitters
Garnish: lemon wedge

preparation:

In a glass with ice add the lemon juice, ginger syrup and ginger beer. It's important to add these ingredients first so the rum can float to the top and create the two-tone effect.

Carefully pour the dark rum over the ginger beer. You can use a spoon to help you pour the rum slowly, which will help keep the layers separate.

Garnish with a lemon wedge on the rim of the glass. Take immediately.
